2004 - Harry Reichert
Star of Integrity Award Hall Of Fame

Star of Integrity

The C-COR Star of Integrity Award honors a member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) for accomplishments in achieving network integrity for advanced applications over cable. The Steuben crystal award is presented to the winner by C-COR at the SCTE's annual Conference on Emerging Technologies in January. In addition to the award, a contribution is also made in the name of the award recipient to SCTE's Scholarship Fund.

The 2004 winner of the Star of Integrity Award is Harry Reichert, Vice President of Digital Engineering for Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. With over 30 years in the cable industry, Harry Reichert is one of the key technical resources to Comcast divisions deploying digital video and leads the Comcast team that is driving the development and deployment of digital video platforms for new revenue-generating products such as VOD, HD, DVR, and ITV. He is credited with developing the criteria for Comcast's current VOD architecture, and he personally evaluates signal and video quality prior to Comcast's deployment of digital video capabilities to ensure high professional standards. Mr. Reichert's career accomplishments include the activation of the first direct digital feeds from programmers for distribution within Comcast; serving as the lead Comcast representative in developing the SCTE standards that formed the basis for the 2002 "plug and play" agreement between NCTA and CEA; and participation in the deployment of the industry's first fiber optic cables in 1989. In all of these, Harry Reichert represented his own "triple play" as a leader, team player, and, perhaps most importantly, a mentor, willing to share his expertise and knowledge with his co-workers and peers. He holds two patents and is the recipient of several engineering awards. An avid golfer, gardener, and historian, Harry Reichert has provided our industry with that rare combination of outstanding technical expertise, diligent dedication to the pursuit of quality, and pragmatic focus.

Any active SCTE member may nominate a peer for the Star of Integrity Award. To process a nomination, a written recommendation must be submitted along with the SCTE nomination form to the SCTE. The recommendation should detail the qualities and accomplishments which make the nominee a distinguished candidate. For more information regarding the submission of nominations, visit the SCTE Web site (www.scte.org).
